One of the things employers care about most when hiring new talent is whether you actually have experience working with your hands.
Any evidence that you’ve built, fixed, or maintained something in the past is valuable.
Why?
Because it tells the employer two things.
First, they know they’re not going to have to teach you absolutely everything from scratch.
Second, it shows that you actually know you like working with your hands.
That’s why we created the SkillCat Portfolio.
The idea is simple: build out a portfolio showing actual hands-on tasks you’ve done.
That could include:
Videos of your tool shed and the tools you know how to use
Videos walking through something you built
Videos of something you fixed
Videos of maintenance work you’ve done
Anything else that shows you actually have experience working with your hands
And if you don’t already have things like this to show, go create them.
Go build something.
Go make something.
Go fix something.
And take a video of the process.
What helps de-risk you for an employer is real evidence: a real video of you, with your face, showing that you actually know what you’re doing with your hands.
We built this tool for you.
Please use it to help get your first job.
