What is the Building Science Principles course?

Building Science Principles (BSP) is an entry-level certificate program from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). It covers how a home's systems — insulation, HVAC, ventilation, and appliances — work together to affect energy efficiency, comfort, and durability.

No hands-on experience is required. It is a knowledge-based course designed as a first step into home performance and energy efficiency work.

You will learn:

  • How heat, air, and moisture move through a home

  • The role of HVAC in building performance

  • How appliances, lighting, and plug loads affect energy use

  • How to improve efficiency before adding renewables

Who it is for: HVAC technicians, contractors, inspectors, appraisers, realtors, solar pros, students, and anyone building a foundation in energy efficiency.
