What is NexTech TechBuilder?

NexTech TechBuilder is a structured technician development program designed by contractors to take inexperienced hires from zero experience to independent, revenue-generating technicians. It's now available only on the Pro Tier dashboard (company plan) across three trades, with over 1,000 hours of structured residential service content.

Available Learning Plans

Each plan includes courses, quizzes, and on-the-job assessments across four levels:

  • HVAC Technician — TechBuilder Levels 1–4 | 446 hours

  • Plumbing Technician — TechBuilder Levels 1–4 | 338 hours

  • Electrical Technician — TechBuilder Levels 1–4 | 218 hours

💡 Total hours include estimated time for quizzes and on-the-job assessments. On-the-job assessments are managed through the Success Portal, separate from the main learning dashboard. Contact support for more information.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between NexTech TechBuilder and SkillCat plans?

  • NexTech TechBuilder — Your primary training backbone. A complete development path from zero experience to independent technician, built by contractors.

  • Trade School plans — A Day 1 onramp for broad trade orientation before NexTech begins.

  • SkillCat levels — Modular skill blocks that fill gaps NexTech doesn't cover.

My techs are already enrolled in Trade School or SkillCat plans. What should I do? Keep them going. Progress is saved, and any completed course will automatically carry over if it appears in a future plan. Once done, layer in NexTech TechBuilder as the next step. No need to stop, restart, or reassign anything.

What do the E, P, and H labels in course titles mean? They indicate trade-specific focus: E for Electrical, P for Plumbing, H for HVAC. Core content is universal, but examples and scenarios are tailored to each trade.

How are the total hours calculated? Total hours include course content, quizzes, and estimated time for on-the-job assessments. Actual completion time may vary based on how field assessments are scheduled.

How do I access NexTech TechBuilder? Plans are available exclusively on Pro Tier. If you're on a standard plan, reach out to your Customer Success Manager or contact our support team to discuss upgrading.
