How to search for a job?

The most popular job platform in the skilled trades is Indeed.

So without a doubt, it’s worth spending the time to go on Indeed, look for every single company in your area that is hiring, write a personalized cover letter, and apply to every single one of them.

Apply, apply, apply.

This is really a one-time task. Go through every relevant opening in your area, personalize your application, and give yourself as many shots as possible.

It may work. It may not.

But it’s always worth giving it a shot.

Start with Indeed.

Search for every HVAC company in your area that is hiring.

Then apply to all of them.

Don’t just send the exact same generic application everywhere. Write a personalized cover letter for each company so that it’s obvious you actually care about working there.

Then move on to the next one.

I would also absolutely recommend using LinkedIn.

Most skilled tradespeople do not have a LinkedIn.

But most recruiters do.

Most company owners do.

Most service managers do.

So if you have a LinkedIn and you’re applying and reaching out to people there, you can actually stand out.

That’s why I would definitely not ignore LinkedIn just because you’re going into the trades.

The people doing the hiring are often there.

There are also a lot of smaller job platforms that are specific to particular skilled trades.

Some of them go in and out of fashion, so I wouldn’t necessarily rely on one specific platform forever.

Instead, be exhaustive.

Google things like:

“HVAC job platform”

or

“skilled trades jobs”

or whatever is specific to your trade.

Find as many relevant platforms as you can, search the openings, and apply.

The overall strategy is simple:

Start with Indeed. Use LinkedIn. Then go find every niche platform you can.

You’re trying to create as many opportunities for yourself as possible.
