What is the 90-Day Access Window?

Everything you need to know about the 90-day access period for EPA trainees on SkillCat — what happens when it expires, and how to extend it.

When a trainee (employee or technician) is added to your EPA dashboard, they receive 90 days of access to the SkillCat platform to complete their EPA 608 training. This article explains what that means, what happens when it expires, and what to do next.

What is the 90-Day Access Window?

The 90-day window is the period during which a trainee can:

  • Log into SkillCat and access their EPA 608 course.

  • Watch training videos, take practice tests, and complete lessons.

  • Attempt the EPA 608 certification exam.

The clock starts the day they are added to your EPA dashboard by the admin.

What Happens When the 90 Days Expire?

Once the 90-day window ends:

  • The trainee loses access to SkillCat and can no longer log in or continue training.

  • They will see a prompt or screen indicating their access has expired.

Good news: Their progress is never lost. All completed lessons, badges, and progress are saved to their profile. If their access is extended, they will pick up exactly where they left off.

How Can Access Be Extended?

If a trainee needs more time, their access can be extended by an admin from the EPA dashboard. The process involves deactivating the trainee and then re-adding them, which grants a fresh 90-day window.

See: How to Extend a Trainee's EPA Access After 90 Days for step-by-step instructions.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of the 90 Days

  • Start early — Encourage trainees to begin their training as soon as they receive the invitation.

  • Set a target date — A typical trainee can complete the EPA 608 course and exam within 2–4 weeks with consistent effort.

  • Track progress — Use the EPA dashboard to monitor how your trainees are progressing.
